Romancing the Novel

SARA, the South Australian Romance Authors writing group, just had an exciting June weekend in Adelaide with our Romancing the Novel one-day seminar, sponsored by Romance Writers of Australia. We had approximately 40 attendees at the SA Writers Centre with some coming from regional South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.

Our guest speakers were Anna Campbell, historical romance author and a 2008 double RITA finalist, and Yvonne Lindsay a New Zealander and contemporary romance author for Silhouette Desire and a Borders Group Number One Bestseller. Both gave us plenty of motivation and inspiration to take home with their workshops on developing realistic characters and point of view as well as telling us about their own road to publication.

A panel of local published authors answered questions about writing and being published. These included Trish Morey, Elizabeth Rolls, Claire Baxter, Christina Carlisle and myself. We congratulated Amy T Matthews who recently won the Adelaide Festival Award 2010 and will soon have her own published work on the shelves.

The day finished with a delicious Greek meal in a nearby restaurant.
